Interactive exercises compliment traditional in-class instruction. In the course of an exercise the student hears a phrase spoken in Mandarin — the model sound. The student's task is to assemble the tiles in a sequence that matches the model sound — the model text. When all of the "sinks" are full, the student's answer is evaluated.
The tile text, number of sinks, model sound filename and model text are all defined in external XML files.
